In 2006, the New Jersey Redevelopment Authority (NJRA) established the NJRA Training Institute (TI), which offers a wide range of intensive workshops covering various topics. These include project finance, tax abatements, redevelopment planning law, tax credits, and Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Funds, among others. Since its inception, the NJRA Training Institute has trained more than 3,000 attorneys, planners, elected officials, developers, and nonprofits from nine states across the country.

As part of NJRA’s creative community investment strategy, NJRA TI has launched the Comprehensive Real Estate Development Class and Tour (CRED). This program employs a case study approach to teach the fundamentals of real estate development, using actual development projects to illustrate concepts, applications, and discussions focused on redevelopment.

The NJRA TI provides intensive intermediate-level training courses that concentrate on the fundamentals of development and redevelopment, addressing various topics and issues. It aims to equip both nonprofit and for-profit developers, professional consultants, licensed practitioners, entrepreneurs, and city/state/county staff with a comprehensive understanding of the redevelopment and real estate development processes. Classes, which cover urban and suburban mixed-use and commercial communities, are available in half-day, full-day, and multi-day formats. The goal is to provide case-driven instruction that uses real-life examples, enhancing participants' knowledge and engagement in the redevelopment and planning processes.

The NJRA TI has gained national recognition and regional accreditation as a training program focused on the complexities of the redevelopment process. Classes are offered throughout the State of New Jersey and can also be customized to meet the specific needs of your organization and conducted at your location. In 2026, the NJRA Training Institute will celebrate its twentieth anniversary.
